A Life of Seven Matthew Wilson was only fourteen when he suffered his accident. On the morning of Monday 7th July 1970 (07.07.1970), whilst The Who were preparing for their gig at Tanglewood, Matthew was outside his house being mowed down by a drunk driver on his way from the pub to the office. Though he survived (and the driver was apprehended and given a severe slap on the wrist) the accident had serious repercussions for Matthew. Understandably distressed, he became obsessed with the number seven. Upon emerging from his coma – where he had lain for seven weeks, losing close to seven stone from his vastly overweight frame – the fixation for the number was immediately apparent. As the accident had happened on all the sevens, and that his age at the time was divisible by the number, his damaged brain insisted the number had saved his life and that he must now dedicate the rest of his days worshipping his numerical saviour.
