Art – An Introduction (of sorts)
10.03.2008

The term ‘Art’ has so many bloody meanings and connotations (aren’t they the same thing?) it’s impossible to calculate. So, rather than describing it as though this were a GCSE module (the three P’s: painting, pencil and pen) I’ve decided to simply list a few things I like and hope you agree with me. I’ve included paintings, drawings, photography and sculptures in this section – and I’ve even been big headed enough to include a few photographs I’ve taken myself (a man of many talents – I wish). I’ve included this section on the website to try and prove that, despite what the papers say, and despite the rubbish you often hear on the news, there is beauty out there, and, despite the best efforts of the Tate Modern, there’s decent art out there as well.

It would be very easy for me to say the obvious artists such as Van Gogh, Gauguin, Miro, Picasso, Da Vinci, Klimt and Monet – all of whom are beyond genius – but everyone knows about them. That’s why I’ve decided to list modern-day artists – those still alive and relatively unknown throughout the general populous. Some of the people out there today are just as good – if not better in this individual’s view – as those classed as ‘classics’, it’s just a case of going out there and looking.

Beside their names, I’ve shown thumbnails of some of their work, as well as providing a reason as to why I like their particular style. But my advice is this: if you really like their stuff, then get yourself over to an art museum or shop – you don’t have to buy the work to appreciate it, but you can’t beat seeing the thing up close and personal.

I’ve also included sketches/ pictures that simply say something to me, whatever that something might be – don’t ask me to interpret, because I won’t. They’ll be things I’ve seen on the net or something I’ve scanned from a book. None of the copyright is mine, but I do this to try and introduce strangers to a bit of something different.

Anyway, this is the introduction over, so go for broke. Have a wander and appreciate.
